Mining in our Area

Wheal Leisure Mine – March 1937. A further view of the collapse of the shaft and it is rather interesting from a mining point of view to see the layering in the crater.

From the top layer of mine dump material there followed beach sand, sub soil and finally killas rock. In the shaft sides there were drill holes which dated to the time when the shaft was being sunk. The building on the right is the back of Sully’s Hotel.
