Mining in our Area

Wheal Vlow Mine – Circa 1928. This shows a further selection of items removed from Hallett’s shaft during the shaft recovery.

In the foreground is the barrel of an old windlass (or ‘tackle’ as the Cornish miner termed it) with the remains of the rope still wound on. To the left is a sinking door piece and a pump which also formed a part of the pitwork of the pumping engine.
