This is a reproduction of a picture postcard brought to the United States of America by Francis (frank) Grubb who was visiting Grubb relatives in 1908/09 and had come by way of Cornwall, England. Frank said that this was where he was born in 1867. According to the family records his parents William and Mary Ann (richards) Grubb ran the inn from 1866 to 1878, William also operated a stagecoach from there.
William Grubb’s family left for Australia in 1878, he and his sons acquired two large cattle stations in North Queensland near Charters Towers and have been operated by his descendants up to 1997.
Goonhavern resident Ronald Grubb was in touch with Ernest Grubb of this line he is in his 70s and has daughters and two sons the cattle stations have just been sold for a considerable sum. Ernest had five uncles who never married the last having died recently thus causing the sale of the Queensland properties.
WILLIAM GRUBB died in 1882 (aged 54) MARY ANNE with the help of her older sons continued to run the properties. Mary Anne died in 1906 (aged 80)
Her Son, JOSEPH went on to own the property “Fletcherdale” which was then passed on to his son JIM.
ERNEST, younger brother of Jim, then bought and ran the property for approximately 15 years before selling it in 1999 and returning to Monto where he had lived since WW2 ended. Ernest died in 2017 leaving 4 daughters & 3 sons. Laurel Samuel (daughter of Ernest & Great Granddaughter of William
