The Independent Order of Rechabites – a sort of teetotal Friendly Society. The Officers & Members of the Billy Bray Tent no:3113 (Goonhavern) celebrated their first anniversary on Saturday May 16th 1903. Headed by the Perranporth Volunteer Band, they perambulated the neighbourhood in the afternoon, and members of “St Michael” Tent no 3087 (Mitchell) joined in the procession. Tea was served at 5pm and tables were presided over by Meedames W T Buddell, J Buddell & R H Richards, Misses E & M Ford, B Tresidder, M J Buddell & B Rowe.
A public meeting was held in the tent room in the evening was largely attended. Brother W R Currie PCR presided and briefly sketched the progress of the tent, which now numbers 36 benefit members. Capital recitations were given by Brothers C Hawke, T Hawke, a Richards & R H Richards. The Band under Mr H Robins gave a beautiful rendering of “The Melodies of Europe” and other selections. A Piccolo solo by Mr McKenzie was loudly applauded. votes of thanks brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
