I have been viewing the pictures of school classes on the web site for the above period and have come across one showing Mr Crabb’s class Circa 1932 where many of the pupils are ‘unknown’.
Amongst my mother’s old pictures I have the original of this which states on the back ‘1930 – when Mr Crabb was at school’. My mother is pictures in the back row fourth from the left – Muriel Elizabeth Bennetts. Her older sister Ediith Mary Bennetts and younger brother Frederick Charles Bennetts were also at the school at the same time. The family were all born in Michigan, USA and came back to Cornwall with their parents in September 1929. The family all then stayed in the Goonhavern area of Cornwall. They subsequently married in the area, the oldest Edith continuing to live in Cornwall all her life. She married Silas Gordon Gifford and they lived in Bolingey. Muriel married Dennis Edgar Edson and they moved to Bath, Somerset and Frederick married Eileen Buddell and they emigrated to New Zealand when their daughter Sharman was a small girl. Sharman Bennetts Dykes has contributed some of our old family photos to your web site.
Thank you Francine for the information, yes I am in contact with Sharman, she has kindly sent me a cd with many photos on it. I knew Silas Gordon Gifford from my youth, and think it’s was his brother Maurice who married and lived outside Goonhavern at Wheal Francis, and that family is all around here today. It’s a small world. Have you got a better copy of the photo, mine is not great, if you can scan or have a copy could you email it to me at [email protected] Thanks
I believe the young woman you have there as Alberta Menadue may be my grandmother.
