Treamble Mine 1937
Between 1859 and 1892 the mine worked intermittently and produced, under various companies, about 16,000 tons of brown haematite (iron ore), some lead ore together with small amounts of silver and zinc. The principal ore body is the Perran Iron lode This photograph shows the commencement of operations by Lloyds Perran Iron Co. who planned to mine the deposit by open-cast methods. A caterpillar tractor and scraper is at work. In the background is a portable air compressor.
