Mining in our Area

Lambriggan Mine – 1927. A photograph taken in the early stages of the re-opening of the mine.

Main shaft is surmounted by a windlass and a temporary canopy. In the background is a steam winch and a large portable engine with the flywheel and crankshaft not yet erected. This was supplied by Sykes & Co, of London who also provided this very neat and efficient plant for the un-watering of Wheal Coates at St Agnes earlier in the century.
