Mining in our Area

Wheal Vlow Mine – 1927. Situated in the sandhills east of Perranporth, the mine was also known at one period in its history as Perran Consols. In the 1920s Wheal Vlow was. one of a number of mines which the Anglo Oriental Corporation re-opened in Cornwall.

This scene was recorded very early in the operations centred around Hallett’s shaft. In the background are the new offices, workshops and the miners dry. The temporary tramway in the foreground is leading to Hallett’s shaft.
